Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Section
The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Section of Hants FBU (formerly G&L section) are dedicated to equality and fair treatment for all of its LGBT members. Their inclusion and contribution to the FBU, the community of Hampshire and to HFRS is essential, ensuring our message to all members, communities and staff is loud and clear, and that sexuality does not make an individual any less of a person. We recently celebrated IDAHO Day on 17 May, the International Date against Homophobia, and were delighted that once again HFRS supported us in this day, asking stations across the Service to fly the rainbow freedom flag. Although widely embraced by HFRS staff and members of the public alike there were sadly still instances of abuse from members of the public, reminding us that ignorance and lack of education still exists within our communities.
Hampshire FBU commits to ensuring their continued help and support to HFRS and it’s communities to identify risks relating to homophobic crime/arson and ways in which we can work more closely with our LGBT communities to prevent and protect them from such incidents. Also to provide advice and support to ensure HFRS policies and practices are not based on assumption that everyone is or should be heterosexual, ensuring same sex relationships are acknowledged and partners/those united by civil partnerships have equal access to benefits available to heterosexual partners.
Hampshire FBU is currently involved in the writing of the HFRS Inclusive Workplace Service Order with the aim of including/encouraging a culture of openness about sexual orientation, ensuring LGBT members and employees have a safe, secure and supportive environment that is free from homophobic harassment and bullying.
If any member has any questions or wishes to be involved in a local network group please do not hesitate to contact us, all contact is treated with complete confidentiality.
